Group 6 - Personification

Personification is when someone describes a thing or abstraction as if it is doing a humanly thing.

A description of an inanimate object as being a living person or animal! It’s like me saying the clock is staring at me.

Examples of Personification in Poetry

They counted the steps of the sun, and they both took root in the carpet where the topaz tortoises run. -William Blake

"Earth felt the wound" from Paradise Lost by John Milton

And like the flowers beside them chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone" from Spring Pools by Robert Frost

Drowsed with the fume of puppies" from 'To Autumn' by John Keats

" Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath." Root Cellar by Theodore Roethke

"Wind yells while blowing" is an example of personification because wind cannot yell. Only a living thing can yell.

"Oreo: Milk’s favorite cookie."

These are examples of personification! They are saying that the wind and Oreos can do things that they really can’t.

This is a power point on personification. There is two videos and four links on it.
